The short version
We are a small pet-waste removal business in Humboldt County. We collect what we need to find your yard, clean it, and bill you for it — and nothing else.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising. We do not track you around the internet. There are no advertising trackers, no analytics profiles, and no data brokers involved in this website.
Your address is one of the more sensitive things you can hand a stranger, and we treat it that way. It is used to route a scooper to your gate and for nothing else.
Who we are
Humboldt Scoop Solutions, Arcata, California. You can reach a human at info@humboldtscoopsolutions.com.
What we collect, and why
When you ask for a quote. Your name, email, phone, the city you're in, roughly how many dogs you have, and anything you type in the message box. We use it to write you back with a price. If you never become a customer, that's all it is ever used for.
When you enter the Poopstakes. Your name and email, and your phone and city if you give them. We use them to run the drawing, to make sure each household wins only once, and to tell you if you won. Entering does not sign you up for service or for promotions — those are separate boxes you tick yourself.
When you become a customer. Your service address, the size and layout of your yard, gate codes and access notes, your dogs' names, and your contact preferences. The crew needs all of it to get into the right yard and do the job without calling you.
When we service your yard. The date and time of each visit, who serviced it, and any notes the scooper leaves. If — and only if — you've turned on proof-of-service photos, a photo of the cleaned area.
When you pay. Your plan, what you were charged, and whether it went through. We never see or store your card or bank details. Payment information is typed directly into Stripe's own checkout page and stays with Stripe; this site only keeps the identifier Stripe gives us so we can look up your subscription.
When you use the website. The web server keeps ordinary access logs — your IP address, which page you asked for, when, and what browser you used. That is how a web server works; it is not joined up into a profile of you, not used for marketing, and not shared. We run no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics. If that ever changes, this page changes first.
If you contacted us through the old form. Before we built the current quote form, this site used an off-the-shelf contact-form plugin that kept its own copy of submissions. Anything sent that way may still be sitting in that plugin's records. Ask and we'll delete yours; we're clearing them out regardless.
What we never do
- We never sell your personal information. Not to anyone, for any amount.
- We never share it with advertisers, data brokers, or "marketing partners."
- We never text or email you marketing you didn't ask for. Service messages about your own visits are separate, and you can turn those off too.
- We never post photos of your property publicly, or use them in marketing, without asking you first and specifically.
Where your address actually goes
This is the part most policies are vague about, so here is the specific answer.
Turning your address into map coordinates, and planning the day's route, both happen on our own servers. Your address is not sent to Google, Mapbox, or any other mapping company to do it. The background map a dispatcher sees is drawn with public OpenStreetMap tiles, which means OpenStreetMap's servers can tell which area of the map is on screen — they never receive your name, your address, or anything else about you.
Where your information is kept
The site and its database run on hardware we control, in the United States. Your records are not sitting in some other company's product waiting to be mined.
Who else sees your information
Only the services we need to actually run the business, and only the piece each one needs:
- Stripe — payments. They handle your card or bank details; we don't.
- Our email and text providers — to send you a receipt, a visit notification, or a reply. They see your email address or phone number and the message. We'd rather not print a company name here that goes stale the day we switch providers, so: ask us who they are and we'll tell you.
- Our web host — which stores the site and its database.
We may also share information if the law genuinely requires it — a valid subpoena or court order. We'd push back on a request we thought was overbroad, and we'll tell you it happened unless we're legally prohibited from doing so.
Photos of your yard
Proof-of-service photos are off unless you turn them on. When they are on, a photo of the serviced area is attached to that visit so you can see the work was done.
They are deleted automatically after 180 days. You can turn them off at any time, and you can ask us to delete any photo immediately.
Gate codes and access notes
If you give us a gate code, it's stored so the crew can get in, and it's visible only to staff who need it. If you'd rather not have one on file, tell us and we'll work out another arrangement.
How long we keep things
- Yard photos: 180 days, then deleted automatically.
- Quote requests that never became customers: up to a year, in case you come back to us, then deleted. Ask and we'll delete yours sooner.
- Customer records, visit history and invoices: for as long as you're a customer, and afterwards as long as we need them for taxes and accounting. Ask us to delete your account and we'll remove what we're not legally required to keep.
Your choices
- See what we have. Ask, and we'll send it to you.
- Correct it. Most of it you can edit yourself in your account; for anything else, tell us.
- Delete it. Ask us to close your account and we'll delete your records, apart from what tax and accounting rules require us to keep.
- Stop the texts or emails. Turn off notifications in your account, reply STOP to a text, or just tell us.
Being straight with you about how this works: there is no self-service button for these yet. You email info@humboldtscoopsolutions.com, a person reads it, and a person does it by hand. We'll come back to you within a few days and finish within 30. We're a small business — that's a real commitment, not a legal formality designed to run out the clock.
One honest limit: "delete everything" cannot mean everything. Invoices and payment records have to be kept for tax and accounting purposes, and Stripe keeps its own records of transactions independently of us. Everything else goes.
If the business changes hands
"We don't sell your data" has an obvious loophole, so let's close it: if this business is ever sold or merged, customer records would move with it, because a pet-waste business without its customer list isn't a business. What we commit to is that we would tell you before it happened, that any buyer would be held to this same policy, and that we would not treat an acquisition as a side door for selling the customer list to someone who just wanted the list.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes — nobody here, including whoever set up your account, can see or recover your password. Access to customer records is limited to staff who need it.
No system is perfect. If your information is ever exposed in a breach, we'll tell you what happened and what we're doing about it, promptly and in plain language.
Children
This is a service for property owners and renters. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or who we share it with, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If it's a significant change, we'll tell customers directly rather than quietly editing the page.
